BARR Presents Internationally About Importance of Relationships

Student and staff working together

This fall, the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) team was invited to present internationally as part of the Teaching Times Masterclass Webinar Series. During this opportunity, the team was joined by educational leaders who shared the importance of focusing on BARR’s two main pillars, relationships and data, to help each student reach their fullest potential. The presentations revealed that when educators focus on using data, they are able to strengthen relationships that can help students feel supported, heard, and valued.

In order to create the most thriving learning environment, BARR believes it is essential for educators to focus on strengthening three types of foundational relationships: staff-to-staff, staff-to-student, and student-to-student, as well as family engagement.

In the recorded webinar series, BARR Center’s team is joined by educational leaders across the country to discuss how these relationships can improve both teachers’ and students’ attitudes and behaviors while leading to better academic outcomes. During this series, the team and educational leaders dive further into how each of these relationships can be transformational in ensuring each and every student succeeds.

Kids don’t care what you know until they know that you care. I think relationships are the bridges on which we build the foundation of their education.

“We really need to be attentive to that student-to-student relationship so the students feel connected and safe and are able to really learn and thrive.”

BARR’s Founder and Executive Director Angela Jerabek

“The overall feeling that the teachers gave was that in general the kids are kinder to each other and they take care of each other. There is a bigger sense of community than we had prior to having this model.”
