Funding for BARR Implementation for three-years, beginning in SY 23/24.

Funding of $5 million has enabled the BARR Center to deliver, through grants, our evidence-based, research-validated system that provides school coaching support, professional development, and curriculum and resources over a three-year period to qualifying school sites. We will select at least 18 schools to participate in this opportunity.

Ideal awardees will be from elementary, middle, and high schools within rural, suburban and urban areas. We are seeking a balanced number of schools from a variety of communities within Minnesota, prioritizing those who serve students who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) as well as those who serve higher numbers of students who are experiencing poverty.

Does this grant cover all costs for BARR services?

Yes. Awarded schools will receive funding for all three years of BARR Implementation services.

What are BARR services?

During the three years of implementation, each school receives a BARR coach, onsite coaching visits, onsite training, curriculum, and access to all system resources. Download this document for more details.

My district has a BARR school. Are other schools in my district eligible to apply?

Yes. Any public or charter school that is not currently a BARR school is eligible to apply including those that are in a district that has a BARR school.

Can I apply for more than one school in my district?

Yes, you can submit an application for multiple schools but each school will need an individual application.

I am a small rural district. Is this an opportunity for me?

Yes! Small rural districts are encouraged to apply. If your district serves 600 or less students in a rural area, you should submit an application for your district as a whole.

What happens after the grant period ends?

Research has shown that the BARR system is self-sustainable within a school after three-years of implementation training and coaching. Additional years of coaching and training are available with a lighter touch and lower cost for schools that complete the first three years of implementation at the school’s cost.

What grades does BARR work with?

BARR works at all grade levels, K-12.

What kind of schools are eligible for this grant?

All Minnesota public and charter schools are eligible to apply.

Do we have to implement BARR school-wide?

Schools may choose their own strategy for implementation. It is common for a school to begin with one grade level, or even one team within a grade level. It is also common for a school to implement BARR at multiple grade levels.

When does training happen and who needs to attend?

Ideally, BARR Implementation Training will occur before the start of the 23/24 school year. If this is not possible, schools may choose training dates shortly after the beginning of the school year. All staff who will be involved in BARR should attend the training, including teachers, administrators, counselors, and other support staff. Anyone from your schools is welcome to attend, and the funding allows up to 60 participants.
